Skin Health and Nutrition
One of the keys to healthy skin is the food you put into your body. Changing your diet
can help to improve your skin. A healthy skin diet includes a balance of foods that
includes protein foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, and liquids that
do not contain caffine or alcohol, as these are drying agents. Many soft drinks have
caffine--you need to read labels to learn about caffine in in your bottled and canned beverages.
If you are having problems with your skin or want to help it heal, some experts
suggest increasing your intake of protein. Low fat varieties for meat, dairy foods fall
into this category. Legumes (beans, peas, lentils, etc) are another
category of protein that is low fat. Natural grains and cereals low in
fat will also bring you needed vitamins. Vitamins A, C, and E
are considered by some to be important vitamins that help with healing and
sustaining healthy skin. If you are anemic you may want ad iron to your diet as well.
Build up a personal "healthy skin team" of professionals and friends. Doctors--especially
dermatolagists can offer guidance. Nutritionists are now in private practice
and can help with a variety of skin problems by advising you about diet. Naturopaths
can also offer advice on ways to bring health to your skin. Your cosmoligist can
also offer advice about foods to eat or to stay away from. Reading is your best and
least expensive source of information.
